TERMS OF USE & PARTICIPATION · CURRENT INTERIM VERSION 20261026
Terms of Use & Participation
This notice sets out the basic responsibilities for Player accounts, Co-creator identity and Bounty Hall participation. Participation means using Earth Online honestly, responsibly and with respect for collaborators.
1|Eligibility and account responsibility
You must provide a usable email address, complete verification, use names, avatars and contact details you are authorised to use, protect your password and session, and take responsibility for account activity. Do not impersonate others, share access credentials or bypass permissions.
The service operator is Earth Online Institute, Canada, a Canadian federal non-profit corporation. Minimum age, guardian consent and territorial requirements still require legal review. Public registration should not open until those requirements are confirmed.
2|Players and Co-creators
Completing email registration creates a basic Player identity. Activating a Co-creator profile adds collaboration capabilities, visibility choices and private project contacts under the same UID; it does not create a second account.
A Co-creator must keep at least one valid contact method. Phone and WeChat details are for project contact, not sign-in. A suspended account or Co-creator profile cannot restore itself through ordinary profile editing.
Certified Player uses separate certification records. The new Player Account is the primary account; an authorised administrator may create a one-to-one certificate link after checking evidence and ownership. Registration, Co-creator or Admin status never automatically grants certification or migrates the legacy database.
3|Bounty Hall task structures
The task description, joining method, acceptance criteria, deadline and reward record are the participation terms for that task. Current backend records govern task state and authority.
- Solo: one executor completes and submits the task.
- Project: one Lead works with at least one Contributor; the Lead organises and submits the whole project.
- Open Call: multiple participants join, submit and are reviewed independently; one submission does not close the parent task.
4|Applications, invitations and participation
A task may use instant join, application, invitation or preassignment. Applying does not guarantee acceptance. After accepting an invitation or joining, read the requirements, describe your skills and availability honestly, and remain reasonably responsive.
Once you submit an application for a task, project or role, the authorised Lead or Publisher for that application and necessary Earth Online administrators may view your private contact details to assess it, contact you and arrange collaboration. That access may continue as needed while an actual member relationship exists. Candidate search before an application or other legitimate project relationship shows only permitted professional discovery fields, never private contacts.
Application text, experience, availability and portfolio links must be accurate and yours to provide. Do not use duplicate accounts, automation, deception or interference to gain tasks, rewards or access.
5|Leadership, leaving and handover
A Project Lead coordinates the team, Work Packages, collaboration, reward plan and project submission, but cannot approve the final result alone. Publishers and Admins review applications and manage tasks within their permissions.
If you cannot continue, use the leave or handover process and provide a reasonable explanation. Lead handover, replacement and departure take effect only when the backend workflow is completed. Deleting profile details must not be used to damage project records.
6|Submissions, review and revision
Executors, Leads and Open Call participants may submit only within their authorised role. Each submission creates a new version. Submitters must ensure work is complete, lawful, safe and responsive to the acceptance criteria.
A Publisher or Admin may approve work or request revision. An authorised submitter may resubmit after revision. Self-review, false completion and attempts to bypass review are prohibited.
7|Content, work and external links
Submit only text, images, files, code, portfolio material and links you are authorised to use, and respect privacy, intellectual property and confidentiality. Do not upload malicious files, unlawful content or private information you may not disclose.
Unless a task clearly says otherwise, you retain rights in your pre-existing content and permit Earth Online to host and process it as needed to operate the task, review work, preserve collaboration records and display authorised public outcomes. Ownership or commercial licensing of deliverables should be stated in the task or a separate agreement. External portfolio sites are operated by their respective providers.
8|CP and GP
CP is a non-spendable contribution record. GP is a platform growth-point record. They are earned only after approval creates the corresponding ledger entry. A planned task reward is not a final balance.
CP and GP are not legal tender, deposits or guaranteed financial assets. V1 does not provide CP/GP cash conversion. Future uses of GP may change with notice. Earth Online may correct documented errors or void invalid rewards, but ordinary user actions cannot arbitrarily rewrite ledger history.
9|Offline Project Benefits and separate arrangements
A task may optionally describe an Offline Project Benefit, such as separately discussed support, an item or another non-standard project benefit. It is not a standard cash reward, wallet or legal currency and is not convertible from CP or GP.
Earth Online does not guarantee cash, income, work or compensation opportunities. Any actual offline cash, item or expense support is subject to a separate arrangement and applicable law. Real cash payments must still be recorded according to the facts, and tax, invoicing, dispute and retention duties remain subject to legal review.
10|Prohibited conduct
- Impersonation, harassment, deception, discrimination, threats or unauthorised disclosure of another person's information.
- Bypassing sign-in, row-level security, task guards, storage limits or another security boundary.
- Malicious code, malware, spam, infringing or unlawful content.
- Manipulating applications, reviews, CP/GP, cash records, leaderboards or audit history.
- Accessing, copying or sharing private contacts, submission files or review feedback without a legitimate project relationship.
11|Suspension, deactivation and termination
Where reasonably necessary to protect users, projects or platform integrity, Earth Online may suspend a Co-creator profile, restrict an account or end participation while retaining history needed for review, rewards, disputes and security. Users cannot remove a suspension by resubmitting a profile.
Users may request deactivation or deletion. Public profiles and private contacts should be removed under the reviewed process, while project, submission, ledger and audit records may be retained and anonymised to preserve integrity.
12|Service changes and availability
Earth Online is evolving. Pages, tasks, point uses and service scope may be changed, paused or discontinued. We aim to preserve important records consistently, but do not guarantee uninterrupted, error-free service or suitability for every purpose.
13|Draft liability and disputes
To the extent permitted by law, users remain responsible for their submissions, external links, collaboration commitments and offline arrangements. Earth Online does not guarantee third-party sites, independent agreements between members or offline conduct outside platform control.
Nothing here excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded. Liability limits, payment or refund disputes, complaints and available remedies must be reviewed by counsel against the final operator and service territories.
14|Legal entity, governing rules and contact
The service operator is Earth Online Institute, Canada, a Canadian federal non-profit corporation. A private residential address is not published in these Terms. Whether a public mailing address must be provided, together with governing law and dispute forum, remains subject to legal review before launch.
The production public frontend is hosted in Tencent Cloud's Hong Kong region, while Auth, Player Account, Co-creator and Bounty Hall backend services use Tencent Cloud CloudBase in Singapore. Cross-border wording for the Canadian operator and Hong Kong/Singapore cloud processing remains subject to legal review. For privacy, account deletion, access, correction or contact-data questions, email privacy@earthonline.institute.
This draft is designated Terms of Use & Participation v1.0. Material changes should create a new version and renewed consent where required; typographical, formatting and non-substantive clarifications do not automatically trigger renewed consent. The final material/non-material test remains subject to legal review, and existing DEV consent records are not rewritten by this draft.
